As a retiring post-secondary education faculty member, I think presenting a historical perspective of how I have seen Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) grow, change, develop during the past 40 years brings a unique opportunity for the attendees. When Home Economics was not only the name of the college, but also the teaching degree there was a different mind-set about our profession. Now that we are growing, thriving, and gaining momentum, revisiting the inclusion of critical science and the original mission of FCS may help us all gain additional appreciation and passion for what and how we teach in the secondary schools.
